Granola on the Go: Convenient and Healthy Snack Options for Busy Lifestyles

Updated: Jan 4, 2023

As a mom and a busy professional, finding convenient and healthy snack options can be a real challenge. I often find myself running from one activity to the next, with little time to spare for grocery shopping or meal planning. This can lead to some unhealthy snack choices, like grabbing a bag of chips from the vending machine or indulging in a sugary treat from the local coffee shop.

But as a picky eater, I also struggle with finding snack options that I actually enjoy. I'm not a fan of most fruits and I find most "healthy" snack options to be bland and unappealing. I want something that is satisfying and tasty, but also good for my body.

One day (pre-Elevated Oats 😉), I stumbled upon a recipe for homemade energy balls. They were made with oats, nuts, a bit of semi sweet chocolate chips, and chia seeds, and they looked like they might be a tasty and convenient snack option.

I decided to give them a try, and they turned out to be a huge hit with my family. Not only were they delicious, but they were also easy to make and pack for on-the-go snacking.

Since then, I've experimented with different variations, using ingredients like Elevated Oats granola, seeds, and nut butters. I've also discovered some other healthy snack options that I enjoy, like protein bars and homemade trail mix.

While it's still a struggle at times to find convenient and healthy snack options, I've learned that it's worth the effort to put in a little extra time and effort to find options that work for me and my family. It's a small step towards a healthier lifestyle, but it makes a big difference in how we feel and how we fuel our bodies.

Granola is a delicious and nutritious snack that is perfect for busy lifestyles. Whether you're on the go for work, school, or travel, there are many ways to enjoy granola as a convenient and healthy snack. Here are some ideas for packing granola for on-the-go snacking, as well as recipes for portable granola snacks:

  • Pack individual servings of granola: Rather than packing a large bag of granola, which can be easily overeaten, consider portioning out individual servings into small containers or baggies. This can help you to control your intake and make it easier to grab a snack when you're on the go. (We've made it super simple for you with our gluten free granola Snack Packs 🙌)

  • Make your own granola bars: Homemade granola bars are a convenient and tasty snack that you can easily pack and take with you wherever you go. There are many variations of granola bars that you can make, depending on your preferences and dietary needs.

Here is a simple recipe for homemade granola bars:

In a medium saucepan, melt together 1/2 cup honey, 1/2 cup peanut butter, and 1/4 cup coconut oil.In a large bowl, mix together 3 cups Basic Oat Blend, 1 cup chopped nuts (such as almonds or peanuts), and 1/2 cup dried fruit (such as raisins or cranberries). Add the melted honey mixture to the oats mixture and stir until well combined.Press the mixture into a greased 9x13-inch baking dish and chill in the fridge until firm, about 1 hour. Cut the granola into bars and wrap each bar in wax paper or plastic wrap for easy packing.

  • Try granola bites or balls: If you don't have time to make granola bars, you can also try making granola bites or balls. These are small, portable snacks that are easy to grab and go.

Here is a recipe for homemade granola bites:

In a medium bowl, mix together 1 cup of your favorite flavor of Elevated Oats Gluten Free Granola, 1/2 cup almond butter, 1/4 cup honey, and 1/4 cup chia seeds. Stir in 1/2 cup shredded coconut and 1/2 cup chopped nuts (such as almonds or peanuts). Roll the mixture into bite-sized balls and place them on a baking sheet lined with parchment paper. Chill in the fridge until firm, about 1 hour. Store the granola bites in an airtight container in the fridge or freezer for a convenient and healthy snack.

  • Pack a mix of granola and dried fruit: For a quick and easy snack, pack a mix of granola and dried fruit in a small container or baggie. This combination of crunchy and chewy will satisfy your hunger and provide a balance of nutrients.

  • Top your yogurt with granola: Yogurt is a healthy and portable snack, and adding granola on top can add flavor, texture, and nutrients. You can pack a small container of yogurt and a separate bag of granola, and then mix them together when you're ready to eat.

Overall, granola is a convenient and healthy snack option for busy lifestyles. By packing individual servings, making your own portable granola snacks, or mixing granola with other ingredients, you can easily enjoy this tasty and nourishing food on the go.
