How Our Air Traffic Control Experience Shaped Our Approach to Business

As a woman in business, I like to take the time to reflect on my journey during Women's History Month. Megan and I have been through a lot together, and I'm grateful for the lessons we learned.

Our experience as air traffic controllers and military leaders has helped us as business owners. Here are some of the top lessons we've learned:

Lesson 1: Communication is key 🗣

In the military, effective communication is essential, especially in high-stress situations. As air traffic controllers, we had to communicate with pilots, ground crews, and other controllers to ensure the safety of everyone involved. We had to be clear, concise, and confident in our communication.

Communication is equally important for business owners. We communicate with our customers, suppliers, and team members to ensure that our operations run smoothly. We have learned to be transparent, honest, and timely in our communication, which has helped us build trust and credibility with our customers.

Lesson 2: You've got to be adaptable 🚨

Because things can change fast in the military, we learned to adapt and be flexible. As air traffic controllers, we had to be prepared for unexpected events, such as weather changes or equipment malfunctions. We had to think on our feet and adjust our plans accordingly.

The ability to adapt is just as important in today's fast-paced, ever-changing business environment. We have learned to be agile, open-minded, and innovative in our approach to business. To meet evolving customer and market needs, we constantly evaluate and adjust our strategies.

Lesson 3: Leadership is about service 🤝

Military leadership isn't about power or authority, it's about service. Our job as a military leader was to set a goodexample and put safety and well-being above everything else.

Service is also part of leadership in business. We strive to serve our customers by offering them the best possible products and experiences. We also serve our team members by creating a positive and empowering work environment where they can thrive and grow.

Looking back on our time in the military, I'm proud of what we accomplished and grateful for the lessons we learned. Those experiences have helped us become better business owners, and we're excited to continue growing and learning together.
